On Thursday, June 5th, Eric Stoll, Relationship Manager Business Services at Consumers Credit Union, will be competing as a Sous Chef in Ministry with Community (MwC)’s 8th Annual Chefs Against Hunger at Cityscape in downtown Kalamazoo. The event brings together ten Executive Chefs from local restaurants to create three-course meals using ingredients from MwC’s own pantry with the assistance of a Sous Chef.
To participate in the event, chefs collect sponsorships to support Ministry with Community, Kalamazoo’s only daytime resource center and shelter. The organization provides food, shelter, and fundamental services to Kalamazoo residents challenged with poverty, homelessness, substance abuse recovery, and mental illness. In 2013, MwC served 120,000 meals to their members, the individuals that they serve.
Chefs Against Hunger highlights the challenges that MwC’s kitchen faces each day when preparing delicious, nutritious meals while relying on food donations—sometimes without staple ingredients like eggs, milk, or butter—for over 300 people. Teams use only the variety of items found in MwC’s pantry and one secret ingredient to create their three-course menu.
A panel of judges sample each chef’s creation and determine the winner based on taste, preparation, best use of ingredients, and creativity.
Consumers Credit Union wishes Eric and all of the participating chefs luck as they take on this challenge for a cause. For more information on the event or to purchase tickets, please visit the Ministry with Community website.
