September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the country and, in 2013, claimed the lives of nearly 1,300 Michiganders. However, help and hope are available to those in crisis, and suicide can be prevented. Find out how you can help someone in crisis here.
On September 9, members of the Consumers team will join others in our community to raise awareness for suicide prevention at the 4th Annual Gryphon Place Suicide Prevention Walk. The 5K-cause walk will start at 9 a.m. at Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo.
The event, which is held to draw attention to National Suicide Prevention Week, allows the community to come together and provide fundraising support for Gryphon Place programs and services.
Studies have shown that when suicidal behaviors are detected early and intervention occurs, lives can be saved. To learn more about how Gryphon Place is helping those in conflict and crisis, click here. To register for the event, click here.
