For the 11th year, Consumers Credit Union will be sponsoring the Kalamazoo Walk to End Alzheimer’s, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association. This year’s walk will kick-off from Arcadia Creek Festival Place in downtown Kalamazoo on September 10 at 12:45 p.m. The 5K walk starts at 1:00 p.m. and will wind through Downtown. Supporting the Alzheimer’s Association is a cause near and dear to many of Consumers’ employees, including team lead Amy Cook who served as a caregiver for many years.
There are more than 5 million American’s living with Alzheimer’s, a number only expected to rise as we live longer. And there more than 15.9 million people acting as caregivers for family members or in memory care facilities.
“That is an incredible number of people,” said Amy, a member service representative at our Gull Road office. “Sometimes it’s easy to feel alone as a caregiver, but these numbers and coming together at events like this tell us that we aren’t.”
So far Team Consumers has raised more than $1,500.00 this year. The Alzheimer’s Association uses donations to advance research, provide care to those with Alzheimer’s, and support caregivers – including support groups in person and online. To join Team Consumers in this important work click here!
