Consumers Sponsors “Sight and Feeling: Photgraphs by Ansel Adams” at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

This January 26th through May 19th Consumers is sponsoring the exhibit “Sight and Feeling: Photographs by Ansel Adams” at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts located on 314 South Park Street, Kalamazoo, MI. Consumers members receive a $2 discount on adult admission to the exhibit.

Regular admission price for adults is $5. Student entry to the exhibit is $2, while children under 12 are admitted free of charge. Admission provides access to all exhibitions in the galleries.

Ansel Adams took his first photograph in 1916, though it took him more than a dozen years to settle on a career in photography. Adams is best known for his iconic images of the American West. According to Roy Firestone’s interview with Ansel Adams, the turning point in his career was his photograph of the Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, because it was the first photo that he visualized instead of just taking. Throughout Adams career, he published numerous books and portfolios and trained over 5,000 students. He was influential not only as a photographer, but also as a teacher, lecturer, and conservationist. In 1980 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor.
