Meet Our Bilingual Staff! Alfonso Espinosa, Member Service Representative and Loan Officer

Meet Alfonso Espinosa, Bilingual Loan Officer and Member Service Representative at our new Portage Road location

As a teller and loan officer at our new Portage Road office, Alfonso opens new accounts and takes loan applications from our Spanish-speaking members. He enjoys educating members on how the products we offer can help them achieve their financial goals, especially when it comes to building credit.

With our Hispanic membership growing, Alfonso sees a great need for Spanish-speaking employees. He says, “Having the option of servicing the members in their own language is quite the advantage for our business.”

Alfonso came to the United States from the Dominican Republic. He graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2010 with a degree in Economics and Business. His last two years of college he focused on environmental economics and behavioral economics. Two years after graduating, he still enjoys reading and learning about current environmental issues and different sustainability movements at the local level and internationally.

Before joining Consumers, Alfonso worked for the Kalamazoo College Media Services Department and interned with Blue Bell Private Wealth Management in Philadelphia for five months, where he learned customer service by assisting clients with their accounts and investments.

Outside of the office, Alfonso enjoys doing yoga, cooking vegan meals, reading and going to swim meets. He was a swimmer for 18 years and still supports his college team as well as the Dominican Republic team.

The best advice he’s ever gotten? “Time, patience and knowledge are the keys to having a successful adventure in life.” Say hi to Alfonso next time you’re at Portage Road!
