Calling all graduating high school seniors! Applications for our 2014 Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program are due Saturday, March 15. Apply online today! In 2014, we will be awarding 20 scholarships of $1,000 and an iPad to Consumers Credit Union members who are graduating high school seniors. We’re proud to offer assistance to our members as they further their education! Consumers Credit Union’s Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program has been helping student members achieve their dreams of attending college for over 20 years. More than 70 scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception.

McPherson, Shook, and Zafer Join Consumers Credit Union Board of Directors

Consumers Credit Union is pleased to welcome three new members to its Board of Directors. Kevin McPherson and Kim Shook, both of Mattawan, have joined as Directors. Nick Zafer, of Kalamazoo, has been appointed as Associate Director. “These three individuals bring a wealth of diverse experience to our board,” says Kit Snyder, President and CEO of Consumers Credit Union. “Each has strong leadership skills, a proven commitment to the communities we serve, and a passion for the credit union’s mission. We are thrilled to bring them on board and look forward to working together.” Kevin McPherson is currently a Principal with Rose Street Advisors in Kalamazoo and has been with the agency for over fifteen years. “Second Chances to Those Who Want It and Warmth to Those Who Need It”

Veronika Scott, The Empowerment Plan

On Professional Development Day, our Keynote Speaker, Veronika Scott, shared the story of The Empowerment Plan, a Detroit non-profit that hires homeless women from local shelters to manufacture the EMPWR Coat, a garment that serves as both a coat and a sleeping bag. These coats are distributed to homeless individuals within the community, at no cost to them. Veronika started The Empowerment Plan as a student at the College for Creative studies in 2010. A design class project prompted the question: What do the people of Detroit need? When she learned that the city was home to over 20,000 homeless individuals, she realized that what many people needed during a frigid Michigan winter was warmth. Shelters alone could not provide every individual in need with that basic necessity, and many of those most vulnerable to the weather valued maintaining as much independence as possible and would not go to a … …continue

Learning Together: Professional Development Day 2014

Our doors were closed on President’s Day, but our staff was active behind the scenes, participating in learning and leadership opportunities at this year’s Professional Development Day. Kit Snyder, President and CEO, says, “Each year, we enjoy this time to connect with our teammates and grow our knowledge. We do this because Consumers believes that our people are our greatest asset. Each employee is a leader, and the decisions they make every day touch thousands of members’ lives.” Each of our team members is an expert in their role, and on Professional Development Day, we get to learn from many of them. Consumers Credit Union Announces Two New Grand Rapids Offices To Open in Fall 2014

Renovations Also Planned for South Haven Office Consumers Credit Union is pleased to announce the building of two new locations in Grand Rapids in 2014. The new locations will be in Gaines Township (1673 68th St. SE, Caledonia, MI 49316) and Cascade (5597 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512). Construction will begin this spring with both offices slated to open this fall. They will feature approximately 3,200 square feet with the latest in banking technology including touch screen access to financial education and an online and mobile banking center for account access and demos. The new offices will also feature a full service lobby with a free coffee bar, children’s play area, and free wireless Internet access, along with a loan and member service area, drive thru lanes, and outdoor ATM. Consumers Credit Union is a proud sponsor of Go Red for Women, the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease in women. While many consider heart disease to primarily affect men, the statistics are equally daunting for women. Currently, 43 million American women are living with cardiovascular disease. We will be attending the luncheon on February 7 at the Radisson in Downtown Kalamazoo. All money raised at the event goes toward empowering women with the information they need to take control of their health. Join us at the luncheon! For every attendee who opens a new Consumers checking account, the credit union will donate $50 to the American Heart Association, in addition to depositing $50 into the new account. New Transfer Capabilities Now Available in Online Banking


You’ve long relied on Online Banking to move money between your Consumers accounts, make loan payments, and pay your Consumers credit card bills. Now you can also transfer money to and from your accounts at other financial institutions, as well as transfer straight to another person or business with accounts elsewhere. To start using this convenient new feature, you’ll simply log into Online Banking and hover over “Transfers” on the menu. Choose “To/from my other CU or bank” or “To any person” to open the enhanced transfer page. There is no fee to send money to another person or to transfer money from your accounts elsewhere to your Consumers account. There is a small fee of $3 for outgoing transfers to another institution. The first time you open this new feature, you’ll be asked to complete the instructions in the Quick Start guide along the right side of the page. … …continue
